Is this why you hate exercise?

One of the biggest reasons that you likely hate exercise is that you are not giving yourself permission to use props or modify the movement. ⁠ ⁠

In many gym and exercises spaces, the expectation is that everyone is trying to do the "advanced" movements. There is a pressure to push yourself hard and not ask questions. ⁠ ⁠

Instructors often lead with the hardest movements, without much thought on how to modify or provide options for different bodies. ⁠

⁠ But the reality is - you get a BETTER workout when you modify the movement to work for your body. ⁠ ⁠

Why? Because it allows you to focus (rather than worrying about your balance, being distracted by pain or discomfort, or struggling to follow along). ⁠ ⁠

Sometimes that might mean: ⁠ ⁠

  • Sitting on a chair instead of standing⁠

  • Using a yoga block or stool to bring the floor closer to your hands⁠

  • Using extra mats, pillows or blankets to provide cushion for joints or additional support ⁠

⁠ All movement is good movement. ⁠ You will be more motivated and engaged when you ENJOY what you are doing. ⁠ ⁠

Give yourself permission to modify and use props! ⁠ ⁠ And - find a community like Loyobo where the instructors encourage you to listen to your body, provide options for all movements, and are trained to teach to different body sizes and abilities. ⁠ ⁠
