Meet our Member of the Month for January - Judy R.!

Hi everyone and a very Happy New Year to all of you! We are so excited to present our first Member of the Month for 2022! In this series, we feature some of the amazing people who are part of our Loyobo FIT family. We think it is important to share their stories to help inspire others and to celebrate their amazing accomplishments!

This month that member is Judy R., who is one our All In Virtual Members and one of the most resilient and inspiring members of our community!

Our entire team is so impressed with Judy’s dedication and consistency towards rebuilding her strength and stamina after fighting cancer. We love the fact that she has incorporated a wide variety of fitness classes into her routine including Zumba, Sculpt & Sweat and LoYoga and how she regularly shares her wins and achievements in our Facebook Group!

Thank you JUDY for being a part of our family and for sharing your story with us!

How long have you been coming to Loyobo FIT and what initially inspired you to try our community?

Since May 2021 - I was inspired by a talk that Courtney gave for a group I am involved with. Then I won a free month so I checked Loyobo out and have been hooked ever since!

What are your top 3 health, fitness and wellness goals?

  1. Improve my stamina

  2. Get stronger so I can lift heavier weights like I used to

  3. Have more energy so I can get more things done

What is one of the challenges that you have faced in your health, fitness and wellness journey? What have you found most helpful in working to overcome it?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2020 and my journey of lumpectomy surgery, chemotherapy and then radiation along with the onset of COVID caused me to gain weight. Also, I had no energy or stamina for months and I knew I needed to make some changes. I finished treatments at the end of April 2021 and started Loyobo in May. I find I like showing up to my classes (all virtual) and feeling accountable to others. Moving my body has helped me feel better about myself!

What was your life like before you started at Loyobo FIT? How did you feel about your body?

I was doing Beachbody workouts for 5 years but then when COVID started I stopped exercising completely. I gained 15 pounds over six months and then another 15 due to cancer and COVID combined. I used to get winded very easily and was no longer able to lift weights (partly because of my arm and pec muscles which were weakened due to surgery.) I was definitely not feeling good or sexy or like myself!

What has changed since you joined the Loyobo Family and became a part of our community?

Since I started doing Zumba and yoga and weights and cardio with Loyobo I have felt more like myself. I still have a lot of work to do but I am learning to love exercise and the high it gives you again. I am no longer focusing on my weight but more on my strength, energy and stamina. Loyobo really helps with that. I feel like we are more of a team working together (yet apart) to achieve some common goals. Goals like loving yourself and being kind to yourself!

What is your favourite memory or achievement of your time at Loyobo FIT?

My favourite memory was getting to go to a Zumba class in person and see the studio and meet Courtney and Christie. The energy in the air was different then online and it was great to feel that.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their health, fitness and wellness journey?

Just take the plunge and try Loyobo for a week. Sign up for 3-4 classes and see how you like them. Be consistent as much as you can. We all know that things come up in life that are not conducive to exercise but get right back into it afterwards. Don't focus on the scale but how you feel in your clothes. How you feel doing classes. Maybe you do a little more than you could last week. Focus on the small wins!

What is your favourite benefit that comes with being a Loyobo member? (e.g., fitness classes, group coaching call, member social etc.). ?

I would definitely say the online classes which is what I mainly do. I like the times they are offered and the variety!

How would you describe you relationship with food and how has being a part of Loyobo FIT changed it?

Food to me is something I enjoy a lot. I enjoy a wide variety of foods and try to incorporate them into my eating routine. What I am trying to get away from is using food as the main reason to get together with people. To not HAVE to have alcohol every time we go out. To make sure I eat a wide range of vegetables and fruits everyday. Loyobo Fit has taught me a lot about intuitive eating and listening to your body when it is hungry and for what. Also, I’ve learnt a lot about how certain foods make you feel after you eat them!

Anything else you would like to share?

I look forward to getting my 100th class bracelet and then my 250 in 2022!
