Meet Tamara - Our Member of the Month for November!

We are so excited to bring you the next edition of our Member of the Month series, where we feature some of the amazing people who are part of our Loyobo FIT family. We think it is important to share their stories to help inspire others and to celebrate their amazing accomplishments!

This month that member is Tamara R., who is one our Unlimited VIP Members and such an incredible member of our community!

Our entire team is so impressed with Tamara’s dedication and consistency towards her health and wellness goals through her active participation in our fitness classes, group coaching calls, challenges and Facebook group!

Tamara also turns 50 this month and we are so excited to celebrate this milestone with her!

Thank you TAMARA for being a part of our family and for sharing your story with us!

How long have you been coming to Loyobo FIT and what initially inspired you to try our community?

I joined in December 2020 - I knew that I needed to move more and get into something regularly. My body started hurting in ways that it hadn't ever before. I was looking at 2021 when I would turn 50 (this month now!) and knew that I was ready to get myself going. I joined a webinar and learned more about Loyobo and loved the discussion that took place. When I realized their classes were offered virtually, I figured I would give it a shot. What I found was an incredible community of beautiful and amazing people!

What are your top 3 health, fitness and wellness goals?

  1. To be more active in general.

  2. Bring in more mindful movement so that my body doesn't hurt from being on the computer all the time.

  3. Next step will be to up-level and push a little further so I can build more strength and increase my cardio - these are the areas that I feel are needing a little more attention!

What is one of the challenges that you have faced in your health, fitness and wellness journey? What have you found most helpful in working to overcome it?

Consistency is tough sometimes. Work and life can get busy and self-care seems to be one of the first things to go. I have found that when I book my classes for the week, I am much better at showing up for myself. I am working to add more things to my self-care toolkit - scheduling time for meditation, going for walks, seeing friends again... committing to these and showing up help to keep things in balance for me!

What was your life like before you started at Loyobo FIT? How did you feel about your body?

I was active most of my younger days growing up - lived in a small town so walked or biked everywhere. I also went to a very small high school and was active in many sports, teams etc. as there wasn't much else to do. I had a bad fall in the winter of 2019 which result in chronic shoulder (not helped by my computer work!) and hip pain. Massages, Osteo, chiro, accupuncture didn't help - I finally found a physiotherapist in Summer 2020 who was able to help and by late Fall 2020, I had so much relief that I knew I could restart a more active movement routine without causing further damage. I had suffered a fair bit though in that my lack of activity had taken its toll on the rest of my body - more weight, less muscle tone, feeling very blah and overwhelmed at the thought of doing anything.

What has changed since you joined the Loyobo Family and became a part of our community?

I am moving again! Most of the pain is manageable and is so much better when I get myself to classes regularly. I have been able to drop the self-criticism for the most part - also learn more techniques to change my thought patterns towards myself so the narrative in my head is more kind and gentle. I know that the thoughts will still be there but I am trying catch and rephrase them.

What is your favorite memory or achievement of your time at Loyobo FIT?

I love everyone here; the encouragement, kindness, compassion, community, variety of classes, group coaching calls, member socials - they are all so wonderful to be a part of. I must say that doing the private sessions with Katie were most helpful to my physically! The remnants of my shoulder issues have almost completely been worked out with her help. It was the final game-changer piece that I needed for healing along with her weekly class that keeps me in check.

Tamara had this photoshoot done this summer for her business and as a pre-celebration for her 50th! We are so grateful to her for sharing it with us!

What advice would you give to someone just starting their health, fitness and wellness journey?

Join LOYOBO!!! Seriously, it has been a huge help to me for getting on track and having an incredible group of instructors and members to give you support and guidance to get you clear on what you want to achieve.

What is your favourite benefit that comes with being a Loyobo member? (e.g., fitness classes, group coaching call, member social etc.). ?

Classes - Live and on-demand to fill in when I can't attend live. Group coaching calls with great topics and awesome conversations.

How would you describe you relationship with food and how has being a part of Loyobo FIT changed it?

I have not had a bad relationship to food - I have never been one for diets and fad garbage - just has not been part of my upbringing or lifestyle thankfully! I have received help at Loyobo though with meal-planning and new/healthy recipe choices that I am grateful for.

Anything else you would like to share?

I can't say enough how much I appreciate everyone and the offerings of Loyobo. It is consistently on my gratitude list for my daily gratitudes - if it is a particular class that I enjoyed, an instructor who gave me the right guidance I needed, a laugh shared with other members or simply having like-minded people who care about each other and show up to do a work out and have fun with. THANK YOU ALL!!!
