Journaling is such a great way to collect your thoughts, reflect and encourage self-exploration!
Our habits and self-talk can be powerful. Writing them down can make it easier to process through your feelings, identify patterns or areas that you are stuck, and can help you work through difficult times or moments.
But – where do you start?
That is where we want to help. We have created this awesome resource with ideas, questions and activities that you can use to guide you in your journaling practice!
With any habit or mental health strategy, you can maximize the benefits of journaling by doing it daily or consistently a few times each week. You can write down your good days, exciting days, shocking days, and more. Anything goes!
And remember – it doesn’t have to be long, written in proper grammar or full sentences. No one will be reading this but you! So, its okay to start small. Jot down a few words, a few key points or lines. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but we promise that it will get easier with time and soon – you will really enjoy it and the words will flow!
Here are some tips on how to get started with Journaling!
-
Pick out a notebook, one that you are attracted to, or has your favorite design!
-
Bring it with you around everywhere, so that you are prepared when inspiration hits or you have a free moment.
-
We find it easiest to either start your day or end your day with 5-10 minutes of journaling. Try to make it at the same time each day, so it can become part of your routine.
Give yourself some time to explore different ideas, themes, or questions and of course – be kind to yourself! Don’t push yourself or set expectations so quickly as that can lower your motivation or even make Journaling feel like a chore. Everyone has their own pace, find your own!
Oh – and of course. Try to have FUN! This is an opportunity to explore yourself, improve your confidence and learn new things.
