Meet Mike - Our Member of the Month for September!

We are so excited to bring you the next edition of our Member of the Month series, where we feature some of the amazing people who are part of our Loyobo FIT family. We think it is important to share their stories to help inspire others and to celebrate their amazing accomplishments!

This month that member is Mike S., who is one our All In Virtual Members and one of the most consistent members of our community.

Our entire team is so impressed with Mike’s dedication towards his physical and mental health, the fact that he has got such a well-balanced work-out routine and because of all the positive energy he brings to our classes and community!

This month, MIKE, we celebrate YOU! We are so grateful to know you. Thank you for being a part of our family and for sharing your story with us!


How long have you been coming to Loyobo FIT and what initially inspired you to try a class?

I joined Loyobo FIT in January 2021. With my other activities, gym and sports (I play hockey, baseball), being shutdown do to COVID, I was looking for an alternative way to workout. My niece, Lori, was working at Loyobo at the time. I mentioned that I was interested in possibly joining Loyobo’s online classes. She set me up with a two week trial and I have been hooked ever since!

What are your top 3 health and fitness goals?

  1. Maintaining a healthy body and mind

  2. Adding a little muscle and tone

  3. Increasing overall body strength and cardio

What is one of the challenges that you have faced in your health/fitness journey? What have you found most helpful in working to overcome it?

Staying positive when I do not see the results that I expect to achieve right off the bat. The Loyobo staff and all the other members have really helped me maintain a positive approach and focusing on the good - everyone here is so friendly and motivating!

What was your life like before you started at Loyobo FIT? How did you feel about your body?

I was used to being very active before COVID hit- I was a goalie in hockey (playing 3 hours a week fall to spring), had baseball in the summer, and went to the gym year round. During COVID, I found other activities to keep me active but it wasn't the same mentally or physically. I felt like I was starting to lose my usual fitness level.

What has changed since you joined the Loyobo Family and started coming to class regularly?

I am in a better place both mentally and physically. I have taken advantage of the wide variety of classes offered. I feel more well-rounded and feel like I am improving not just my physical state but more importantly my mental state.

What is your favorite memory or achievement of your time at Loyobo FIT?

Showing up to a 5:30 pm online class with Courtney - it was just the two of us and we were both wondering where everyone else was. We were about to start the class when I looked at the class start time and realized that the class didn't start until 5:45. pm We both thought that the class was at 5:30. We hung out and talked for 15 minutes!

What advice would you give to someone just starting their health and fitness journey?

Focus on the positives no matter how big or small. Some days will be great and other days not so much. Experience and try different classes - you might find something unexpected that helps you mentally and physically.

What is your favorite class and why?

Tough to choose just one. I have to give the edge to LoYoga - Not just for the physical aspect but the mental focus. Mental health is so important and LoYoga helps make me aware of my mental well being and improving it.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?

“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.” (Stephen Hawking)

Anything else you would like to share?

Loyobo FIT is a great environment. The staff and members are amazing. It is great to interact with everyone. I feel like I am part of an extended family group where I am always welcome.
