Meet our Member of the Month for February – Lauren C.!

Hi everyone! We are so excited for you to meet our Member of the Month for February! In this series, we feature some of the amazing people who are part of our Loyobo FIT family. We think it is important to share their stories to help inspire others and to celebrate their amazing accomplishments!

This month that member is Lauren C., who has been a member of the Loyobo Family since 2019! Our entire team is so thankful for Lauren’s support over the years and the positivity she brings to our community! We also truly appreciate her work as an educator!

Thank you LAUREN for making us a part of your journey and sharing your story with this.

How long have you been coming to Loyobo FIT and what initially inspired you to try our community?

I joined in September 2019! Initially, a friend from work asked if I wanted to join her at this “new to her” gym. We went to our first Kickboxing class and I enjoyed the layout and the feeling of Loyobo so much, that I continued with my membership!

What are your top 3 health, fitness and wellness goals?

  1. Get outside every day

  2. Do at the minimum 1 thing just for me every day (skincare, book reading, meditate)

  3. Stretch and take care of my joints!

What is one of the challenges that you have faced in your health, fitness and wellness journey? What have you found most helpful in working to overcome it?

Injuries has been a big challenge for me in my wellness journey. I have a history of knee and back issues, dislocated ankles, that have limited my movement – even in the past 6 months!!

Overcoming it has been only been possible by committing to making time for myself – whether that be booking and keeping appointments (massage, chiro), doing yoga, stretching, having a bath, etc. Not feeling shame for modifying my normal movement routine to match what my body was needing was a big deal too!

What was your life like before you started at Loyobo FIT? How did you feel about your body?

I have always had issues with negative feelings towards my body and spent a lot of time being stuck in trying “health kicks”/diets and viewing working out as a punishment. In university I would do my workouts by myself early in the morning at a generic 24 hr gym – didn’t have great interactions with anyone or really enjoy myself. I grew up thinking my body wasn’t the right size.

What has changed since you joined the Loyobo Family and became a part of our community?

My overall mindset towards movement – it is an act of self-care and a scheduled time that I get to commit to myself. It feels great to move my body !! But also learning that the way my body looks is the least important thing about me.

What is your favorite memory or achievement of your time at Loyobo FIT?

I LOVE Kickboxing. I have really enjoyed watching how I have grown and what I am really capable of in that class (a.k.a how hard I can hit!!). Its great to have people with you that cheer you on too!

What advice would you give to someone just starting their health, fitness and wellness journey?

Find what you enjoy doing – what makes you happy! I think it is all about balance too. Some days my body wants to just walk the dog and get some sunshine. Other days, it wants to sweat it out or do yoga. It’s all about balance and enjoyment!

What is your favourite benefit that comes with being a Loyobo member? (e.g., fitness classes, group coaching call, member social etc.). ?

Group classes for sure. Its nice to see familiar faces and to workout alongside others!

How would you describe you relationship with food and how has being a part of Loyobo FIT changed it?

I have a better relationship with food that I have ever before. I haven’t had the opportunity to join many of the group coaching calls on mindful eating at Loyobo, but working with my naturopathic doctor has really helped build my viewpoint. Food is fuel 🙂

Anything else you would like to share?

Thanks LOYOBO for your commitment to your members. Although I sometimes have long periods of time where I may be away from the gym, I always know I am welcome back 🙂
