Hello everyone!
Welcome to another edition of our Member of the Month series, where we feature some of the amazing people who are part of our Loyobo FIT family. We think it is important to share their stories to help inspire others and to celebrate their amazing accomplishments!
This month, our member is Norm Sailian, who is one of our VIP members. In November, our entire team has been been so impressed by Norm’s commitment to coming out to classes, to try new things and push himself outside of his comfort zone. He has an amazingly kind spirit and brings such a warm, friendly presence into the studio with every visit.
This month, Norm, we celebrate YOU! We are so grateful to know you. Thank you for being a part of our family and for sharing your story with us!
How long have you been coming to Loyobo FIT and what initially inspired you to try a class?
I joined with a 30 Day Trial back in March 2019. I actually found the studio on Groupon and realized it was within walking distance of my house! It was a no-brainer!
What are your top 3 health and fitness goals?
Increasing my flexibility, lowering my blood pressure, and improving my posture and alignment. I am a hiker, which requires a lot of looking down to make sure you don’t stumble on various types of terrain. The classes at LOYOBO have been very helpful for me for restoring proper alignment.
What is one of the challenges that you have faced in your health/fitness journey? What have you found most helpful in working to overcome it?
I have recently been dealing with some shoulder injuries. My previous job involved regularly using an impact-gun (for building mining equipment!) which is very tough on the shoulder joints. I have been gradually and gently building up strength in my shoulder muscles with regular classes here which has helped me to see improvement.
How has your life changed since becoming a member of Loyobo FIT?
I am an introvert, and being a member here has definitely helped with my social anxieties. I am actually the leader of my hiking group so it has helped me to feel more comfortable in that role as well. It’s also not easy for me to talk about myself or toot my own horn for something like this, but hey, it’s only for a month, right? 🙂
What is your favourite memory or achievement of your time at Loyobo FIT?
My favourite memory was the Square Dancing Happy Hour! I plan to attend more classes of this style with a partner!
What advice would you give to someone just starting their health and fitness journey?
I definitely recommend the accountability of pre-registering for classes (especially before sitting down with a TV show!) Once it’s in your calendar, you’re committed!
What is your favourite class and why?
I really like Pilates and Yoga, but most recently I’ve been enjoying Mind/Body Unwind – It actually really helps to improve my sleep.
What is your favourite healthy snack? Falafel!
